Rancher and Mixing Linux and Windows Containers

Just attended the monthly Rancher meetup (January 2017)

Windows support looks pretty interesting.  It seems like fully heterogeneous environments are not far way.  It seems to be mostly networking that needs to be integrated.  I am wondering how Docker itself will do this type of thing.

You can put Linux load balancers in front of Windows Containers.

Windows:  Server 2016
Linux: Boot 2 Docker
Same environment (Windows)

Upcoming is adding Windows to Linux environments - have to make sure scheduler puts
the containers on the right host though - support is coming to assure this happens

Storage Driver support for Windows is coming

Points out that keeping track of multiple images for each service (one linux and one for windows) is part of the complexity of having truly heterogeneous clouds.

Rancher 1.4

Prometheus / Webhook integration!  This seems very useful - scale up a service based on metrics coming from Prometheus!
