The all powerful Github search pays off again :) It seems others are thinking about sharding and sidecars in Kubernetes. This is a good sign.
In the proposed Data DSL in our system, sharding is tied to the resource DSL in that compute will be provisioned on the same nodes as the sharded data.
The sidecar definition in ShardingSpace is not exactly the same. Nevertheless, there is probably some useful material in this project. Related ideas always fill in areas you have not thought of yet.
